How to Upgrade to the iPhone

Being a Cingular oops, sowwy, AT&T customer (yet again… remember when Cingular bought AT&T Wireless?!) I do hope it’s gonna be easy to upgrade from my Treo 650 with unlimited data plan to the new iPhone.
Raven Zachary is on T-Mobile and wanted to switch early to avoid all the drama of billions thousands of users switching at the same time in June and it seems it’s not going to be that easy to do so…
So, I went on Cingular.com (oh yeah, it still exists) to “manage” my account and make sure it wouldn’t be a pain in the ass to upgrade to the iPhone when it becomes available in June. You know, just to check how I will have to proceed when the time comes
First of all, the “Upgrade Phone” link is easy to find, that’s always a good thing. I just hate having to look for hours for simple links like Contact Us, etc. There are actually two links inviting you to upgrade your phone!
Second of all, if you wonder if you qualify for a phone upgrade, just know that when a new phone is available for your account, a “Upgrade phone” link will display.
Third of all, “Phone upgrades do not incur the $36 activation fee; however, an upgrade charge of $18 will apply.” They will always find a way to charge you some sort of fees ah! $18, I can live with that!
Upgrading your phone does seem as easy as :
- Select a new phone and rate plan for your current wireless number
- Add your favorite features and accessories
- Check out…

Then I can choose from a long list of devices. Damn, still no iPhone
Ok, let’s say I upgrade to a Treo 650, click - add to my existing plan - on-line instant discount - check out. It definitely looks easy!
Two questions now… What will happen :
- in June when the crazyness hits the planet Mac Addicted?
- if you wanna buy your iPhone at the Apple Store instead than on-line or at a
CingularAT&T store??
We can only hope it will remain as easy as upgrading for a regular phone today!!
